Valley of the Temples

The archaeological sites of Agrigento, south of the present city center, are among the best preserved temples of Ancient Greece. They show, above all, the remains of Akragas, one of the most important ancient Greek cities in Sicily. The Greek temples testify to the greatness, power and cultural prosperity of the Greek city of that time.

In 1997, UNESCO declared the Valley of the Temples a World Heritage Site because Akragas "was one of the greatest cities of antiquity in the Mediterranean area and is preserved in perfect condition. Its magnificent series of Doric temples is one of the most outstanding monuments to Greek art and culture." [1]

In Germany, the ancient sites became known in the 18th century, especially through Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Italian Journey [2].

The Valley of the Temples and its museum are open daily.

Monday - Saturday: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm
Sunday & Holidays: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Admission Prices

Admission is free on the first Sunday of every month. A 50% discount is available for European citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 if you can show your ID. Tickets are available for the Valley of the Temples and the museum, or combination tickets for both. There are stalls at both parking lots where you can buy the tickets.
