Weather in November

November is mild and part of the calm low season: daytime temperatures around 19 °C and lows near 14 °C make hiking pleasant. The sea holds summer’s warmth surprisingly long at about 21 °C – in early November a quick swim is often still possible. With roughly 11 rainy days there is some rain, but many clear, sunny days in between.

Activities in November

November is harvest time: olive mills (frantoi) press and serve the new olive oil (olio nuovo) – many offer tastings and tours. Add to that the wine regions, truffle and mushroom foraging in the Madonie and Nebrodi mountains, and city visits to Palermo, Catania and Syracuse entirely without the summer bustle.

Events in November

All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day (1–2 November) are deeply rooted in Sicily: children traditionally receive gifts and sweets such as marzipan “Frutta Martorana” and “Ossa dei Morti” biscuits. On 11 November San Martino is celebrated with the first young wine. Throughout the month, olive-oil and harvest festivals take place.
