Vendicari

The nature reserve Vendicari is 1.450 hectare large and located in the south of Sicily, between Lido di Noto and San Lorenzo. It is one of the most important resting places in the Mediterranean Sea for birds such as flamingos, cormorants, herons, and storks. Here you will find many observation huts, which are a true paradise for bird lovers. But also sunbathers and passionate snorkelers will love the nature reserve Vendicari.

The nature reserve was established in 1984. You will find here a mixture of lagoons, sand dunes, nature trails, rocky coasts and sandy beaches. As well as various archaeological sites, such as an old tuna fishing factory (tonnara), old fishermen houses and a tower known as "Torre Sveva" from the 15th century.

For a trip to the nature reserve Vendicari you should take with you bathing clothes, drinking water, a small snack, as well as a photo camera, binoculars, and sun protection. Dogs are forbidden in the nature reserve.
