Within a few hundred yards on the coast of Santa Croce Camerina are Inspector Montalbano's house from the TV series, a 16th-century watchtower and the remains of a Byzantine harbor settlement.
Punta Secca is part of Santa Croce Camerina, a little over 3 miles from the town center. Its name comes from a reef off the eastern beach that locals call 'a Sicca. On the small square by the Torre Scalambri watchtower stands the white house that is Montalbano's home in the series; its terrace opens right onto the sand. Today it is rented out to guests. The village also has a lighthouse.
A few hundred yards farther on is Caucana, also part of Santa Croce Camerina and named after the ancient port city of Kaukana. The remains of a late Roman and Byzantine settlement have survived here, including a church with a mosaic floor. Before visiting the excavation site, check the opening hours.
Punta Secca and Caucana have sandy beaches, and the seabed is sandy too. The other beaches of the area are in the overview Best Beaches in the Province of Ragusa.
There are holiday homes in Santa Croce Camerina, about 3 miles away, and in Scicli, about 11 miles away.
