Sampieri Beach in Sicily

Sampieri, part of Scicli, has more than a mile of fine sandy beach. At its east end the ruin of a brick factory rises above the sea.

The main beach at Sampieri starts at the village and runs east for more than a mile of fine golden sand. In 2026 the Sampieri-Pisciotto stretch received the Blue Flag for the third year in a row. At the east end, in the Contrada Pisciotto, is the Fornace Penna.

The Fornace Penna

The brick factory was built between 1909 and 1912. On the night of January 26, 1924, it burned out, and production ended. The ruin, with its tall chimney, has stood above the beach ever since; you see it from the sand. In Inspector Montalbano it is the Mànnara, for example in the episode "La forma dell'acqua."

Sampieri, Scicli and the neighboring beaches

The old town of Scicli is about 5.5 miles away, and so is Pozzallo. Donnalucata lies to the west; to the east, past Pozzallo, is Santa Maria del Focallo. The other beaches of the area are in the overview Best Beaches in the Province of Ragusa.
